Software Depot – A software depot is a collection of VIBs and image profiles. You examine and define an image profile using the Image Builder PowerCLI. An image profile always includes a base VIB, and might include more VIBs. Image Profile – An image profile defines an ESXi image and consists of VIBs.

You can use VIBs to create and customize ISO images or to upgrade ESXi hosts by installing VIBs asynchronously onto the hosts. VMware and its partners package solutions, drivers, CIM providers, and applications that extend the ESXi platform as VIBs. To make it more detailed, one can look at the vSphere 5 documentation page here, but basically you'll find out that there are differences between individual VIBs, Image profile or Software depot: Different types of VIBs? What is VIB?Ī vib is vSphere Installation Bundle. If the host gets updated to at least vSphere Essentials (or higher), the tools have write-access and can be used for truly managing the host. To clear the doubts, Free version of ESXi mean ESXi with free license applied. However, they can still be used to update/install/check the VIBs. Update2: The scripting toolkits which uses PowerShell are limited to read-only access for the free version of VMware ESXi. Update: I'm talking here about ESXi Free version, where the remote CLI tools can't be used, because of the locked up APIs. Virtual infrastructure monitoring software review. Your vmdk name will depend on how you setup your initial image. In this example my original build was the CHR 6.34.1 release hence the vmdk name "chr-6.34.1.vmdk". The fix is a simple cloning of the vmdk and then moving the files around a little.
#Mikrotik on vmware esxi 6 install
long story short, this is an issue with the process where you install on vmware workstation and then migrate to esxi. I updated to ESXi 6.0 U2 this week on all my esxi hosts and this managed to break my CHR install with errors related to the deltadisk running out of space. It is a little bit of an epic to set the chr device up the first time however, the x86 version hasn't been an issue to get going in the past. I use it as my Dude server and have also used it to do speed testing to other physical mikrotik boxes on the network and out into the internet. I have had CHR 6.35rc10 running on ESXi 5.1 since January this year.
